How We Rank

What Each Tier Means

Our rankings consider combat power, base utility, breeding value, and overall versatility. Here's the breakdown for each tier.

S

S Tier — Meta Defining

The absolute best

These Pals dominate every aspect of the game. They have the highest stats, best passive potential, and are worth every Cake you spend breeding them.

  • Legendary Pals with unmatched stats
  • Essential for end‑game content
  • Require multi‑step breeding chains
  • Worth perfecting with 4 passives
A

A Tier — Excellent

Top performers

Outstanding Pals that excel in their roles. Slightly below legendaries but still incredible for combat and base work. Easier to breed than S‑Tier.

  • High stats and great work suitability
  • Breedable in 1–2 steps from commons
  • Great for mid‑game power spikes
  • Anubis, Blazamut, Orserk are standouts
B

B Tier — Strong

Solid choices

Reliable Pals that perform well throughout the game. They won't break records but will serve you well in most situations. Good breeding targets early on.

  • Strong combat performance
  • Decent work suitabilities
  • Often have useful variant forms
  • Easy to obtain and breed
C

C Tier — Average

Situationally useful

Middle‑of‑the‑road Pals. They have niche uses but are generally outclassed by higher tier alternatives. Still viable for casual play.

  • Useful for specific tasks
  • Good early‑game companions
  • Breeding stepping stones
  • Replace when better options appear
D

D Tier — Niche / Early Game

Temporary helpers

These Pals are outclassed in almost every way. Use them early on, but replace them as soon as you can breed or catch better alternatives.

  • Low stats across the board
  • Only useful in the first few hours
  • Not worth heavy breeding investment
  • Better options exist for every role
FAQ

Tier List Questions Answered

Common questions about our Palworld tier rankings, how we evaluate Pals, and how to use this list effectively.

We update the tier list within 48 hours of every Palworld patch. Our team tests all balance changes, new Pals, and meta shifts before adjusting rankings. The last update was for Patch 0.4.x, which added new variant forms and rebalanced several elemental matchups. Bookmark this page or check our Patch Notes for live updates.

We evaluate each Pal on four key factors:

  • Combat Power — Base stats, elemental matchups, and signature moves
  • Base Utility — Work suitabilities and base efficiency
  • Breeding Value — How useful they are as parents in breeding chains
  • Accessibility — How early you can obtain them and the effort required

A Pal that scores high across multiple categories earns a higher tier placement. S‑Tier Pals typically dominate at least three of these areas.

Anubis is arguably the most valuable breeding target in the game thanks to Handiwork Lv4 and excellent combat stats. However, it's not S‑Tier because:

  • Its raw combat stats are outclassed by Legendary Pals like Jetragon and Frostallion
  • It lacks the unique signature moves that define S‑Tier fighters
  • It's relatively easy to obtain through breeding, which slightly lowers its prestige

That said, Anubis is the #1 breeding priority for most players and an easy A‑Tier lock. Use our Breeding Calculator to find the fastest route to one.

Yes — variant forms have completely different Power Values and often different element types, which can dramatically change their ranking. For example:

  • Pyrin (C‑Tier Fire) vs Pyrin Noct (B‑Tier Fire/Dark) — the Noct variant gains Dark coverage and better stats
  • Lyleen (A‑Tier Grass) vs Lyleen Noct (A‑Tier Dark) — both strong but in different roles
  • Mossanda (C‑Tier) vs Mossanda Lux (B‑Tier) — the Lux variant is a significant upgrade

Always check the specific variant form when planning your breeding or team composition.

Yes — passive skills can significantly boost any Pal. A D‑Tier Pal with Legend + Ferocious + Musclehead + Swift will perform far better than an untrained S‑Tier Pal. However, an S‑Tier Pal with the same passives will always outclass it. Our advice: invest your best passives into A‑Tier or higher Pals for maximum return. Check our Passive Skill Stacking Guide for the full strategy.

For most players, the ideal breeding priority is:

  • 1. Anubis (A‑Tier) — Handiwork Lv4 transforms your base efficiency
  • 2. Grizzbolt (A‑Tier) — excellent combat mount, breedable in 1–2 steps
  • 3. Orserk or Blazamut (A‑Tier) — powerful fighters for mid‑game
  • 4. Jetragon (S‑Tier) — the ultimate goal, requires a full breeding chain

Use our Breeding Chain Planner to map the exact steps from your current Pals to any of these targets.
