The Foundations of Catching Pals

Before you throw a single Sphere, understand these core mechanics. Mastering the basics will save you hundreds of wasted resources and make legendary catches feel effortless.

🔵

Choose the Right Sphere

Palworld has 5 Sphere tiers — from basic Pal Spheres to Legendary Spheres. Each tier increases your catch rate significantly. Using a Legendary Sphere on a low‑level Pal is wasteful; using a basic Sphere on a boss is futile. Match the Sphere to the target.

Weaken Before You Throw

The lower a Pal's health, the higher your capture chance. Bring weapons that deal consistent damage without killing. Ranged weapons let you chip away safely while staying mobile. Never attempt a full‑health catch on anything above common tier.

Craft Better Weapons

Inflict Status Conditions

Paralysis, Freeze, Poison, and Burn all boost capture rates. Shock Pals with Electric attacks to stun them, then throw. Freeze is especially powerful — it holds the Pal in place and adds a massive catch bonus. Always carry a status‑inflicting Pal in your party.

Hit From Behind

Throwing a Sphere at a Pal's back gives a significant capture rate multiplier. Sneak up using crouch, or wait for the Pal to turn during combat. Combine back throws with low health and status effects for near‑guaranteed catches on all but the toughest Pals.

Pro Tip

Build Your Base Before Hunting Rare Pals

A well‑built base gives you the resources to craft higher‑tier Spheres and the stations to mass‑produce them. Before you chase legendaries, make sure your production lines are ready.

Advanced Hunting

Catching Legendary & Boss Pals

Legendary Pals require preparation, patience, and the right strategy. Here's how to catch every high‑value target without wasting your best Spheres.

🐉

Jetragon

Dragon • Legendary

The fastest mount in Palworld and one of the hardest catches. Found near the volcanic region at high altitude.

  • Bring Legendary Spheres only — anything less is wasted
  • Use Ice‑type Pals to exploit its Dragon weakness
  • Freeze it before throwing for maximum catch rate
  • Expect to use 10–20 Spheres even with perfect setup

🦄

Frostallion

Ice • Legendary

A majestic Ice‑type legendary found in the frozen northern mountains. Powerful in combat and stunning as a mount.

  • Use Fire‑type attacks to counter its Ice element
  • Nighttime spawns are more frequent — hunt after dark
  • Hyper Spheres can work if health is below 10%
  • Clear nearby hostile Pals before engaging

🦅

Shadowbeak

Dark • Legendary

A fearsome Dark‑type legendary with devastating aerial attacks. Patrols the desert region at dawn and dusk.

  • Dragon‑type moves deal super effective damage
  • It's aggressive — clear your escape route first
  • Use a tanky Pal to absorb hits while you throw
  • Status effects are less effective — rely on raw HP damage

Necromus

Dark • Legendary

A skeletal Dark‑type powerhouse. Often found alongside Paladius, making this a dangerous double encounter.

  • Separate it from Paladius before engaging
  • Dragon attacks are your best damage option
  • Nighttime gives a slight catch rate bonus
  • Bring at least 15 Legendary Spheres

Boss Strategy

Always Save Before Engaging a Legendary

Legendary Pals can take 20+ Spheres even with optimal conditions. Save your game right before the encounter. If you run out of Spheres or the Pal dies, reload and try again. This one habit saves hours of farming.

Where to Hunt

Best Catching Locations by Biome

Every biome in Palworld has unique spawns, weather conditions, and challenges. Knowing where to go saves hours of aimless searching.

🌿

Grasslands

Beginner Friendly

The starting biome and home to many common Pals. Mild weather and abundant resources make this the perfect place to learn catching mechanics and stock up on basic Spheres.

Lamball Cattiva Chikipi Foxparks Lifmunk
🌋

Volcanic Region

High Risk, High Reward

Intense heat and aggressive Fire‑type Pals dominate this zone. Bring heat‑resistant armour and plenty of water. Home to some of the strongest dragon and fire Pals in the game.

Frozen Mountains

Ice Types Abound

Freezing temperatures require cold‑resistant gear. The snow slows movement, but the Ice‑type Pals here are worth the trek — including the legendary Frostallion roaming the highest peaks.

Desert Wastes

Home of Shadows

Harsh desert conditions test your endurance. Daytime heat drains health, and nights bring out dangerous Dark‑type Pals. Stock up on water and Sphere supplies before entering.

Expert Advice

Advanced Catching Tips & Tricks

Small adjustments that make a massive difference. These are the techniques experienced players use to catch Pals faster and with fewer resources.

01

Cycle Your Spheres During the Throw Animation

You can switch Sphere types mid‑animation. Start with a basic Sphere to bait the Pal, then quickly swap to a higher tier before the throw connects. This saves expensive Spheres on uncertain catches.

02

Use Terrain to Trap Pals

Lure Pals into narrow passages, against cliffs, or into corners. When they can't move freely, their dodge chance drops significantly. This is especially effective against fast Pals like Rayhound and Univolt.

03

Night Hunting Gives a Silent Bonus

Many Pals are less alert at night, making it easier to land back‑bonus throws. Combined with the darkness visibility reduction, you can sneak much closer before being detected. Bring a torch or use a Fire‑type Pal for light.

04

Stack Multiple Status Effects

A Pal can be affected by more than one status at a time. Freeze it first to stop movement, then apply Poison for damage over time, then throw while both are active. Each active status adds a separate catch rate multiplier.

05

Bring a Dedicated Catching Pal

Keep a Pal in your party specifically built for catching. Look for Pals with moves that inflict Paralysis or Freeze without dealing heavy damage. A low‑attack, high‑status Pal prevents accidental KOs on your target.

06

Farm Sphere Materials While Exploring

Don't return to base every time you run low. Carry a portable crafting station. Pal Fluids drop from Water‑type Pals, Ingots from mining nodes, and Cement can be crafted on the go. Stay in the field longer.

Got Questions?

Everything You Wondered About Catching

No fluff — just straight answers to the questions every Palworld trainer asks.

🔮

Best Sphere for Legendary Pals?

Always use Legendary Spheres. Lower tiers have a near‑zero catch rate even with perfect conditions. Bring 15–20 per fight and save before engaging — one bad run can wipe your entire stockpile.

📈

Does Level Affect Catch Rate?

Absolutely. A Level 50 Lamball resists far more than a Level 5 one. Match or exceed the target's level and always weaken high‑level Pals before throwing your Sphere.

👑

Can You Catch Bosses?

Most bosses — yes. Only Tower bosses are immune. Open‑world bosses and alpha Pals are fair game but have higher resistance. Weaken them heavily and bring your best Spheres.

🎯

Why Do Spheres Keep Missing?

Pals dodge when alert. Freeze or paralyse them first. Throw from behind while they're distracted. Wait for attack recovery frames — that's when they're most vulnerable.

⚖️

Catch or Breed Rare Pals?

For legendaries, catching is your only option initially. For everything else, breeding is smarter — you control passives, save Spheres, and get infinite copies from one catch.

😰

Ran Out of Spheres Mid‑Fight?

Stay calm. Retreat, craft more, return — Pal health doesn't regenerate unless you leave the area. Carry a portable workbench and raw mats to craft in the field.

Ready to Catch 'Em All?

You now have everything you need — Sphere knowledge, biome routes, boss strategies, and pro‑level tricks. The only thing left is to get out there and start catching. Your perfect Pal collection is waiting.
